Omaha's Lauritzen Botanical Gardens
A view of architectural roof details on a replica of the entry gate at Sunpu Castle in Japan. This Sunpu gate is a gift from the citizens of Shizuoka to the people of Omaha to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Omaha Sister Cities Association relationship with Shizuoka, Japan. It symbolizes the friendship between the two cities.
Sunpu is the former name of Shizuoka. Sunpu Castle was built between 1585 and 1586 by the powerful shogun, Ieyasu Tokugawa, which served as Tokugawa's final residence for the last years of his life. Tokugawa was the first shogun of the shogun era and brought Japan together under one rule for the first time.
