Another winter image in my series of bronze sculptures taken at the Joslyn Art Museum's sculpture garden.

Spirit of the Dance (1932) by painter and sculptor William Zorach (American, born Lithuania, 1887–1996) Zorach’s first large-scale composition, Spirit of the Dance for Radio City MusicHall, also represents his first work in cast aluminum. The work is based on an important concept in his oeuvre: rhythm. In addition to the aluminum work, Zorach had several bronze casts made, including this one. Prairie Gators

The Prairie Gators, a popular Cajun/Zydeco group in the Omaha area is seen here playing the Omaha Farmers Market last season. Vocalist, Steve Kunasek is on accordion, Howard Surber on bass and Buffalo on guitar. Steve is an artist with a remarkable mastery of the Acadian accordion and French lyrics. I marvel at his ability in capturing the traditional sound of Cajun and Zydeco masters. More images of Steve in performance here.

Monochrome Weekend

Photographed after one of our snow storms this winter, this artwork of pioneers leaving Omaha to cross the plains in covered wagons is a small part of a large public art installation spanning several blocks of the downtown business district. This portion, called Pioneer Courage relates to another collection of large bronze sculptures a few blocks away called Spirit of Nebraska's Wilderness. Click here for a full description and gallery of the extensive project. It is my plan to feature a number of images from the complete collection in future posts.
