Redbird

Hey, you looking at me?
Of all our backyard songbirds, the Northern Cardinal, cardinalis cardinalis, is probably our favorite. The clear, whistling melodies exchanged with its mate through all the seasons never fail to get our attention.

And the males of most bird species are so much lovelier. Unlike humans.

What a wonderful photo! He's gorgeous, and inquisitive! You were definitely being sized up, but apparently were found to be acceptable since he gave you such a great pose! I love this - I have a friend who is WILD about cardinals that I'm going to share this post with, he'll love it!

I can't get over how different your backyard birds are to mine out here in Oz Raf, he/she is a little beauty, i'd be thrilled to get a shot like this.

raf, what kind of camera do you use? I'm thinking of "graduating" from my Kodak EasyShare to a DSLR.

Laloofah - You've taken some great pix with your Kodak! I use a Canon T1i DSLR for most outdoor images. I think the newer model of that is now a T3i. I also try to keep a small Canon Powershot SX150is pocket digital on me at all times so I don't miss things. Have had great service with the Canon cameras.

Thanks, raf! My little Kodak does do a great job, but at this point I'd like to have a "grown up" camera that can do a lot more. We were looking seriously at the Canon Rebel T4i (the very newest model), but even on Cyber Monday it was just too much $ for us, especially after the expenses of a new house. Still, I'm sure the purchase is merely a postponement and the info you shared is very helpful! Thanks so much!
