The Great Grus Canadensis Gathering

The spring migration of sandhill cranes is truly one of the great spectacles of nature and a birder's delight. They arrive in waves from various southern wintering grounds beginning in mid February and continue until early April. In the weeks ahead I hope to make several posts with current photos and information about the extraordinary sandhill crane gathering and possibly a few pics of some of the other estimated 300 species that will also be passing through on their northbound journey.

Must be an amazing migration. Yesterday I was in town and heard birds singing in the trees. A few days ago I saw a small flock of Oregon Juncos bouncing along the snow covered log boom in front of our cabin. Spring can't be too far away! - Margy

We have sandhill cranes at our local bird sanctuary, but I've never seen them in the air. It must be quite a sight to see.

Wow, that's a great capture, the crane alone would have been beautiful, but with the moon as well, that's just magnificent. Looking forward to seeing more.
